Clinic Policies
Commitment and Philosophy
Hands On Rehabilitation is dedicated to providing professional excellence in hand therapy in a warm and caring environment.
We aim to enable early, access to hand therapy services so clients receive the optimal outcome, maximising functional return to work and sport.
Please find listed on this page terms and policies that are consistent with maintaining such standards of care within our clinics.
Initial Hand Therapy Appointment
Allow 30-45 minutes for your initial hand therapy appointment. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time to enable time to fill in the appropriate registration form and any other paper work required.
It is helpful if you bring with you any x-rays, other investigations (MRI or bone scans), ACC details, hospital discharge papers and referral form, if given one from your Doctor, Accident and Medical clinic or the hospital.
The initial consultation involves the therapist taking a comprehensive history of the problem and performing a thorough physical examination of the injured area. This is followed by education and advice as to the probable diagnosis, likely healing time frames and a specific individual treatment, splinting and rehabilitation plan to achieve your required goals.
Hand Therapy consultations traditionally take place in an open plan treatment space, private treatment rooms are available if specifically requested. Any charges for treatment, custom made splints or pre-formed orthotics will be discussed at time of consultation.
Subsequent Hand Therapy Appointments
Follow up hand therapy appointments are generally 30 minutes in duration. We have a busy schedule and your appointment time is reserved for you, our therapists endeavour to run to time, please respect this and arrive in a timely manner. Hands On Rehabilitation does offer an acute splinting service for trauma clients, this may on occasion influence our schedule, and we apologise for any delays.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Hands On Rehabilitation respects client’s right to privacy, we provide private treatment rooms and treat information with the strictest confidence. Our Therapists agree to client and clinic confidentiality policies and are required to operate under a code of ethics from our professional registration organisations, the New Zealand Board of Physiotherapists and Occupation Therapists. Client’s rehabilitation details may be discussed with referrers, specialists and funders (ACC or private insurance case managers) only after written consent from the client.

Late cancellations (less than 24 hours notice) may incur a fee for non attendance.
Clients arriving late to an appointment, but within their appointment time slot, may receive a shorter consultation in order to avoid inconvenience for other client’s waiting.
Repeated non attendance will result in your referrer being notified and further appointments withdrawn.
Payment
It is expected that any fees for treatment and/or materials will be paid in full, at time of consultation. We accept payment by cash, cheque, eftpos and credit card. Outstanding accounts are sent out monthly.
